32.5x45, freehand technique on paper, 2022
B. 1996
The artist is self-taught. The style she uses can be described as hybrid; she depicts figures realistically, sometimes approaching hyperrealism to a certain extent, while she designs backgrounds based on a completely different concept: when drawing them, she refers mainly to the work of Gustav Klimt, but also to a slightly broader concept of Art Nouveau (floral motifs, flowing line), Art Deco, Pop Art and Japanese art. Marianna Berenika Forysiak refers to a variety of styles and currents rather than to specific works. The paintings she currently creates are based on a certain idea, which has something of a joke in the old sense of the word: it is a kind of concept, a joke, an allusion; a "witty" reference to the work of another artist, appealing both to the aesthetic needs of the viewer and to his memory, which is a platform for a free game of associations.
By training, the artist is a literary scholar, editor and curator of literature. She works on the literature of Romanticism and the borderlands of literature and theology.
