80x80, freehand technique on canvas, 2019
The artist creates under the pseudonym Pfishova. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk with a specialization in Graphic Design. She received her diploma from the ASP in 2014 in the studio of Slawomir Witkowski and Adam Swierżewski. She also did a three-year studio study of fashion design. She works in painting, illustration, design and art printmaking, textiles and collage. Pfishova's work creates a specific marriage of structure and geometry, underpinned by a fascination with structural nature and also traditional techniques such as woodcut, linocut, dry needle, as well as a love of typography. She seeks simplicity in colors and forms, but often combining both, then going beyond her framework. She is interested in themes of plastic and pollution of the planet and the environment, so she often creates with secondary elements such as mesh, wire and string.
She has participated in many exhibitions - group, solo, national and international, including Art Basel Art Week in Miami, CAGE Gallery in Barcelona, where she also received an award in 2019. Her work was also shown at the 2019 "Creative for Human Rights" Biennale of Social and Political Posters in Wolfsburg, Germany.
She writes about herself: "I'm constantly busy exploring the drawers of my own subconscious, the consciousness of infinite ideas. (...) Consciously. Indeed. Feeling. I exist then only I and My World. My Space. My consciousness. The crux is in the details, the structure, the shapes. (...) Each work stores a part of me through hours of concentration and devotion. I discover myself trying to hide, especially from myself. To look anew sometimes not seeing anything anymore. Without seeing and waiting I begin to see.
With great sensitivity and empathy, I want with my art to help, raise important issues or speak about what is shameful to our human race like the idea of PLANET RECYCLED ART. (...)
At the same time, I am passionate about the letter and its power of message, the power of influence of the graphic sign. Symbols, resultant signs of insights. I transform the Kashubian signs that have surrounded me since childhood from napkins, vases, porcelain into my own graphic language. I take off their colors, give them the forms of graphic symbols. In a way I cut myself off from them, but only gently, because I still love them. I create them anew, in my own way, I weave them into my world. I sculpt my space with them. I transfer these signs, symbols to paintings, graphics, illustrations sometimes they master the whole picture and sometimes they are only small elements. In the patterns of my childhood I saw signs, letters, forms therefore today I transform words or meanings into graphic signs, seals, forms. (...) The image forces you to look, think, read or expand the history of your own words. Words that nowadays are often considered trivial or their pronunciation or admission of feeling them arouses shame, embarrassment, weakness, intimidation. E.g. compassion, love, pity, forgiveness, empathy, understanding, peace, honesty, etc.
